Venice Leung has recently joined Vincent Young as a Senior Associate with our property team.

We sit down with Venice to find out more about her background.

  1. Tell me a little about yourself. What’s your background and why did you decide to study law?

I have over 10 years of experience in property law ranging from a simple conveyancing transaction to major complex property acquisitions, disposals, and leasing. This may sound cliché but I decided to study law simply because I wanted to gain the legal knowledge to protect and assist people.

2. What are your passions? What lights you up?

I enjoy learning and exploring new things whether through travels or researching the functionality or the history of a certain object or place.

3. What do you enjoy about role?

I enjoy seeing the final result of the hard work I put into each matter no matter how simple or complex the transaction is.

4. Why focus on property and the law? What is it about those sectors that you enjoy or find interesting?

I am drawn to the tangible and lasting impact property law has on communities and the intricate legal frameworks that support it. I enjoy navigating the intersection of commercial objectives and legal requirements and find it rewarding to help shape transactions that bring spaces to life where people live, work and grow. The diversity in property law, from leasing to development and planning, keeps the work dynamic and intellectually stimulating.

5. What’s your biggest learning or the most unexpected thing about your work life so far?

I have learnt that no matter how long or how experienced you are in your area of expertise there will always be something new for you to learn or challenge to face in this evolving industry.

6. What are the biggest challenges you face?

Maintaining a work and life balance is still a struggle for me. Sometimes I am too focused in pursuing my career that I sometimes forgot to enjoy my life.

7. What do you enjoy the most about working at Vincent Young?

I am always learning something new every day. I enjoy the new challenges given to me while working with highly experienced experts and knowing that I have support when I need them.

8. What do you aspire to in life/your career?

I aspire to continue to grow as a respected and trusted property expert, known for providing strategic, commercially minded legal advice that helps clients deliver meaningful projects and shape the built environment.

9. If you were to give other budding lawyers one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would share an advice given by one of lecturers in College of Law – “In your first few years as a lawyer, don’t be scared when you make mistakes. Make as many mistakes as you can. Mistakes help you grow to become a better lawyer. Learn from it and gain experience.”
