- Tell me a little about yourself. What’s your background and why did you decide to study law?
I am currently in my final year at the University of Technology Sydney, studying a Bachelor of Business (Finance) and Bachelor of Laws. In high school, I developed a strong passion for debating and mock trial, and I received my Diploma of Communication, which contributed to my interest in law. I have worked at Vincent Young for just over 2 years in the construction team.
- What are your passions? What lights you up?
I’m passionate about exploring the world through travel, where every destination brings a new perspective and adventure. I also find joy in involving myself with sports and unwinding with a great movie or TV show!
- What do you enjoy about being a paralegal?
Working closely with lawyers and always being given the opportunity to learn, gaining practical insight into the legal process and contributing to the success of cases.
- What’s the experience of being a paralegal like?
The experience of being a paralegal is highly rewarding as it offers continuous learning opportunities enabling me to progress and grow.
- What’s your biggest learning or the most unexpected thing about your work life so far?
One of my biggest learnings has been the importance of attention to detail, as the small little things make all the difference. I have also been surprised by how much the legal industry relies on building strong relationships and trust.
- What are the biggest challenges you face?
Maintaining a work-life balance in the fast-paced world of law, particularly as a university student, can sometimes be challenging.
- What do you enjoy the most about working at Vincent Young?
I enjoy working alongside highly skilled lawyers who are willing to mentor and teach me – their patience, willingness and genuine desire to teach has made all the difference in my growth!
- What do you aspire to in life/your career?
I aspire to build a successful career in law where I can impact people’s lives and companies, as I have witnessed firsthand the profound difference a lawyer can make in various situations.
- If you were to give other law students one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would share the advice my boss gave me when I started working at Vincent Young – “999 problems out of 1,000 can be solved.” The legal industry can be a tough one, but nothing is worth losing sleep over or worrying about – there is almost always a solution, and someone will be there to help you find it.
